The African American Museum of Performing Arts (AAMPA) is a newly formed, non-profit organization. The AAMPA is set to launch in Chicago, Illinois bringing forth Black culture performance Art and insight into African American diaspora through the lens of performance artists. Founded by Harry Lennix, AAMPA is set to open its doors in January 2021.
AAMPA is opening its museum with the launch of Setting Our Own Table, a pre-recorded virtual talk show directed by TaRon Patton. This talk will display demonstrations that revolve around art forms and African American performance art legacy. Throughout the year, the show will be integrating community-focused conversations to provide education on African American performance arts legacy and the purpose of future AAMPA exhibits and experiences.
